Two years ago, I was given the job of Induction Tutor and Professional Mentor in my school, responsible for the training and mentoring of roughly twenty trainee and newly qualified teachers, mostly part of the Teach First graduate scheme.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to design a Professional Development programme from scratch, and then to have another year to make changes and improve on what I had done.
In this area of the site, I include:
- The principles I had in mind when setting up my programme, and how I responded to these in reality
- How I decided to track teachers’ skills so that I could intervene accurately if necessary
- How I hoped to ensure more effective mentoring between trainees and their subject mentors.
I have included all the resources that I made in the hope that others find this useful in their own programmes.
